Obama and His Biotech Bedfellows

As presidential candidate in 2007, Barack Obama promised, if elected, to give consumers the right to know if their food is genetically modified.

No doubt one of his “yes we can moments”….

In 2008, after becoming elected Obama quickly moved to appoint Roger Beachy, former director of the Monsanto Danforth Centre, to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) director of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture. He also appointed Michael Taylor former vice president of public policy at Monsanto to deputy commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), and the US Trade Representative have a special set of revolving doors’ connecting directly to Monsanto, this has allowed the transnational giant to gain such phenomenal influence.

In March 2013 President Obama signed bill H.R. 933, the “Monsanto Protection Act” written by Monsanto sponsored senator. With H.R. 933 now a law, the court system no longer has the right to step in and protect the consumer.

Our food rights handed over to the biotech giant Obama promised to protect the consumer from.
